How it all began....
A lot of people ask "What made you decide to breed sphynx cats?". My story always starts with one special name. OSCAR. In 2013, I came across a 2 year old beautiful blue- eyed boy for adoption. My wife and I had always dreamed of owning a sphynx but figured one would fall in our laps when the time was right. We knew a sphynx would find us. Oscar did just that! I set out 3.5 hours to pick this beautiful boy up and bring him back to his new home. Little did I know that my life was never going to be the same from the moment I turned on the car to begin our journey home together.
I couldn't help but melt when looking into his piercing blue eyes. We were so in love with our new little boy and he was so in love with us. About 1 year after adopting him, he was diagnosed with the dreaded Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) that I'd been hearing about from other sphynx owners. This devasted my wife and I to the core but I knew I was going to do whatever possible to learn everything I could about HCM, start treatment early, and be involved in awareness. We were blessed to have him in our lives until he was 9 years old.
After Oscars diagnosis, I spent 3 years doing all the research you can possibly think of to learn everything I could about this magnificent breed. Unfortunately, that meant all the bad things too like HCM and feline infectious peritonitis (FIP). I spent 3 years familiarizing myself with everything related to the sphynx breed and decided I wanted to give my heart to breeding.
My goal is to breed healthy kittens and create awareness. I am dedicated to bettering this breed by annually screening my cats for HCM with Dr. Meurs of NC State University, providing excellent veterinary care & preventative screening, and A LOT of love! all began with the beautiful boy below. Oscar. My heart and soul.
